The department of Kannada was started with the establishment of the College in 1982.  The Department teaches Kannada as a compulsory language in the first and second year degree course along with English language and also teaches optional Kannada for the First , Second and Final year students .

Curricular activities like tests, assignments and exams have been conducted in accordance with rules and regulations of the Davanagere University to which the college is affiliated. 

The Department teaches Kannada Poetics, Language , Literature and Grammar. The syllabus Includes important literary works of Kannada  from the ‘Kavirajamarga ‘, the veerashaiva movement of 12th century to the modern age.

The department of  Kannada  offers Kannada (Optional ) with other combination such as

1. History—Kannada (optional )—Sociology.
